Will 3-D TV’s Take Over The Industry

Looking at the direction of the electronics industry, 3-D television appears to be the next greatest thing out there. But is it really? If IMAX theater trends are any indication, the industry may be in for a rude awakening. IMAX 3-D movie sales are dropping off gradually and steadily as time passes. Remember AM stereo? That was another idea that turned out to be a major disaster.

Who can blame the industry for trying, if consumer interest in 3-D television goes south. Much of the reason for this may be due to consumers having to rely on glasses to enjoy 3-D television. Most people don’t wear glasses because they want to; they wear them because they have to. Luckily, 3-D television doesn’t require the use of glasses if you want to view it in 2-D. These televisions require careful calibration to ensure the color mappings are preserved for both 3-D and 2-D viewing and manufacturers have been very good about updating their monitors to accommodate both 2-D or 3-D viewing.

Only time will tell if consumers adopt 3-D television. For those of us who are missing an eye or have damaged vision, this is a non-issue. For us, 3-D television always looks 2-D anyway. If you like what you see, keep going: 3DS Television Service Begins Tomorrow
